What we know so far about Horizon Forbidden West's Story

Horizon Forbidden West from Guerilla Games, announced at the PlayStation 5 reveal event in June 2020, is the highly anticipated sequel to 2017's Horizon Zero Dawn. Coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, we recently released snippets of Horizon Forbidden West gameplay previewed at the State of Play in June 2021, giving us a glimpse of the action's sequel.

But you may be wondering about this story. How will it be the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn and do you have to play the first game to understand the second? There isn't much information yet (Horizon Forbidden West doesn't even have an exact release date!) But in this article, we'll take a closer look at what we know so far and hope to help you understand the storylines of this west. coast continuation.

What Happened at Horizon Zero Dawn

To understand the sequel, we have to go back to the first part. The Horizon series is set in the distant future where technological beasts now dominate the Earth and force the surviving humans to return to their tribal existence. The main protagonist of the game, Aloy, is an outcast from the Nora tribe who argues between Nora and a group of cultists who try to control corrupt machines to do damage and kill their enemies.

Over the course of the game, Aloy discovers the ruins of the ancient world that show how she destroyed humanity. Long ago, the Faro Corporation unleashed military machines that revolted and began to consume biomass, rendering the Earth uninhabitable. Scientist Elisabet Sobeck responded with the Zero Dawn project. Driven by an artificial intelligence called Gaia, this project would restart humanity from extinction by introducing artificial humans and friendly animal robots into the world to restore the ecosystem. As we can see, this plan was somewhat successful, but the part where humanity would have access to all its insider knowledge has been sabotaged. Zero Dawn was later interrupted by an artificial intelligence named Hades, who was initially a Sobecka-created emergency vault, but has since been activated by an unknown signal and revolted in an attempt to take control of Gaia and reclaim all life destroy.

Back in the post-apocalypse, we learn that evil cult members worship Hades and that Aloy is their target because she resembles Elisabet Sobeck. We eventually learn that he is Sobecka's clone, created by Gaia to fight Hades. Indeed, Aloy defeats Hades and the cult members with the help of a man named Sylens, who initially found and raised Hades to be betrayed by an AI when he grew too powerful. However, at the end of the game, we learn that Hades didn't actually disappear, but was captured by Sylens, who wants to learn more about the ancient world and where the signal came from that sent Hades rebellious and caused these problems.

The Story of Horizon Forbidden West

"Discover the secret of Earth's impending collapse and unlock a hidden chapter in the distant past...one that will change Aloy forever."

Here's the most important official information we have about the Forbidden West, in which Aloy travels to America's west coast to fight a new plague, new enemies, new machines, and a slew of adverse weather conditions.

In the trailer for the reveal of the sequel, we see natural life returning to Earth, but also a red plague that kills wild animals and destroys crops. According to the new gameplay trailer, Aloy appears to be exploring more ancient world ruins to find new technology and fight the plague.

Sylens is back and appears to be training other humans to tame the machines. It's unclear whether his intentions are right or not, but there also appears to be a new enemy tribe called the Tanarth, which has powerful raiding machines. How they got the machines under control seems to be the focal point of the plot and how it relates to the plague.
