Path of Exile 2: Mastering the Art of Trading – A Complete Guide

Today we’re going to dive into a trading guide for Path of Exile 2. Trading in this game can be a bit of an intricate process, but with the right knowledge and tools, you can make your way through it smoothly. This guide is a bit overdue, but I hope it will serve you well and age like fine wine. So whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a new player looking to step into the trading world, this guide is for you.

In today’s guide, we’ll be covering the fundamentals of buying and selling Path of Exile 2 Currency, using third-party programs to help with trading, price-checking, and a few other tips to ensure you’re getting the best value for your items. Let’s dive in!

1. Currency Exchange in Path of Exile 2

When you reach Cruel difficulty in Path of Exile 2, you'll be able to interact with the gambling merchants in the game. These merchants allow you to exchange various currencies that are vital for gear crafting. The most notable of these are the Divine Orbs, Exalted Orbs, and Mirrors.

At this point, you can begin exchanging currencies to help with crafting your gear or selling high-end items. To give you a simple example, let’s say you want to exchange Divine Orbs for POE 2 Exalted Orbs. The general exchange rate for these currencies can be something like 284 Exalted Orbs for 1 Divine Orb.

Here’s how it works:

1. Select the currency you want to trade.

2. Choose the amount you want to exchange.

3. As long as the exchange value is decent, the trade will be complete, and you can then collect your items.

While it’s a simple exchange, keep in mind that the exchange rates can fluctuate based on demand, so always be sure to check the current rates before making any trades.

2. Selling Gear – The Basics

Selling gear is a key part of the trading experience in Path of Exile 2. To start, you’ll need to upgrade one of your existing stash tabs into a Premium Tab. Alternatively, I highly recommend getting the Premium Quad Stash Tab, which offers both more storage and premium features.

Once you have your Premium Tab, you can set up your gear with individual pricing. There are three main options for pricing:

·Exact Price: You set a fixed price for the item, and the buyer can purchase it for that exact amount.

·Negotiable Price: This allows for negotiations between you and the buyer.

·Price Negotiation Enabled: This allows for negotiation, but with a more flexible range for both parties.

Now, let’s say you want to list an item with an exact price. You can list it for, say, 50 Exalted Orbs (though no one may actually buy it at that price). This item will then appear on the trade websites, where players can search for items that match certain criteria.

3. Price Checking – Researching Market Value

Price-checking is essential when it comes to trading in Path of Exile 2. Without knowing the true value of an item, you might either overcharge or undercharge. So how do you go about price-checking?

·First, you need to visit the trade website. This is where all the action happens. To find the market value of your item, look at the primary stats that are valued by players, such as rarity, resistances, and minion stats.

·You can then input these stats into the search filters to narrow down the results and get a feel for what other players are selling similar items for.

For example, if you’re selling an item with specific stats (e.g., minions, resistances), just input these values into the filter, and you’ll get a list of comparable items. From there, you can adjust your price accordingly.

One thing to keep in mind is the presence of bot accounts. Some bots list valuable items at extremely low prices in an attempt to trick new players. For example, you might find an item listed for 1 Exalted Orb that is worth far more, but this is usually a bot trying to inflate the market by flooding it with these items. Always be cautious when looking at items that seem too cheap.

4. Third-Party Programs – Making Trading Easier

Trading through the website and in-game can sometimes be a bit tedious. Fortunately, there are some third-party programs that can make the process much smoother, especially when it comes to pricing, buying, and selling.

One of the most popular tools is Overwolf, which features built-in apps for trading. While I personally don’t use Overwolf, I prefer a program called Sidkick, which is simple and easy to install. Once you’ve installed Sidkick, you can simply hover over an item, press Ctrl + D, and it will automatically display the item’s price comparisons.

For example, if you’re trying to sell an item and you want to know how much to list it for, Sidkick will pull up the cheapest price for similar items and suggest a price. This takes all the guesswork out of pricing and ensures that you’re staying competitive in the market.

5. Buying Items – What to Look For

Buying items in Path of Exile 2 is just as important as selling them. When you’re looking for an upgrade for your character, you need to be sure that the item you're purchasing fits well with your build.

Let’s say you want to buy a new pair of boots with the same stats as your current boots but with 35% movement speed. Here's how you’d go about it:

1. Search for boots that match your current stats (e.g., Fire Magic Find, Chaos Resist, etc.).

2. Then, filter for boots with 35% movement speed.

3. Compare prices from different sellers to see who has the best offer.

If you find a pair you like, simply whisper the seller by clicking “Direct Whisper.” This automatically sends a message in the seller’s local language (which can be very handy if the seller is from another country).

When you get a response, you’ll likely be invited to their party and teleported to their hideout. Once you're at their hideout, you can inspect the item and complete the trade.

6. Common Trading Pitfalls to Avoid

As with any in-game economy, some pitfalls can trip up even experienced traders. Here are a few things to watch out for:

lScam Listings: Some players will list high-value items for extremely low prices and then refuse to sell them when you contact them. This can be a way to get you to buy an item they’re trying to scam. If an item is listed at an unusually low price, be sure to double-check the stats and the seller’s credibility.

lBot Accounts: As mentioned earlier, some bot accounts will list items at ridiculously low prices, attempting to deceive new players. Be cautious and avoid buying from sellers who appear to be spamming low prices.

lUnderpricing Your Gear: It’s tempting to sell items quickly, but underpricing can lead to you losing out on potential profits. Always use a third-party tool like Sidkick to check market prices and ensure your items are listed at competitive prices.

7. Conclusion

Mastering the art of trading in Path of Exile 2 can make a huge difference in your ability to craft and upgrade your gear efficiently. While the process might seem complicated at first, using the right tools and resources can make it much easier. With the use of Premium Stash Tabs, third-party programs like Sidkick, and careful price-checking, you can ensure that you’re getting the best value when buying and selling items.

By avoiding common pitfalls like scam listings and bot accounts, you’ll be able to navigate the Path of Exile 2 economy with confidence and make the most out of your poe2 trade. Happy trading, and good luck on your journey through Wraeclast!
