Madden 22: The Scout Update is too late for franchise players this year

Madden 22 is still set to receive the long-awaited Scouting update that will bring new features to the series, but this update is still lagging behind.

After a long wait, the Scouting update will be too late to save the franchise players in Madden 22.

The Scouting update still has a delayed release date

Much attention has been paid to the franchise mode in Madden 22, starting with the #FixMaddenFranchise campaign, to which EA reacted after the launch of Madden 21.

Since then, we've seen a lot of positive moves from EA Sports highlighting some of the things they've been working on and their commitment to franchise mode. Unfortunately, the big upgrade for the Scout upgrade is not yet available, and the update is delayed again after a failed launch.

Improved Scouting was one of the features EA paid a lot of attention to with its Madden 22 release, and dedicated an entire episode of the EA Play Spotlight series to this expansion. Not only did it not show up at launch, but the originally promised September window was missed, and now the Scouting update has an obscure "mid-October" window.

The lack of an official release date tests the patience of both those who considered waiting for Madden 22 and those who already played it.

Franchisees build saves which they have to give up

If you've already purchased Madden 22 and are spending that time in franchise mode, you probably do so knowing that your hard work won't be long if you want to try out the new Scouting update content.

Every effort you put into the current save will soon prove futile if you want these new features to appear in the game. Even before the Scouting update was delayed, EA made it clear that players must start new franchise enrollments in order to access the new Scouting system.

This means that all existing saves will not have the new Scout system, as long as they are still available even after the update.

While EA didn't say the old saves will be unplayable after the update, the avalanche of issues and bugs the game has struggled with this year makes it a very real possibility, whether on purpose or not. Players will either have to start from scratch or continue playing without a feature that they would likely be very excited about in Madden 22.

The hype about the premiere almost evaporated in Madden 22

Of course, adding Scouting to the Madden 22 franchise doesn't just apply to players who are already playing it, but it's also a selling point for new players.

Should the Scouting Update come out in early or mid-September as initially expected, this would be the perfect timing. While arriving at launch would be a best-case scenario, a launch in the first half of September would also land after fixing some of the game's scariest bugs.

After upgrading, it would be very easy to "fix boot errors and now has a reworked scouting system." Unfortunately, now that it's October, the hype surrounding the Madden 22 launch has almost evaporated, and the chances of someone who has yet to buy a Madden 22 this month are negligible compared to what it would have been three or four weeks ago.

While the Scouting update will ultimately be a boon to the franchise mode, it may be more tangible in Madden 23 than in Madden 22.
