Madden 21: 5 TEs Whose Rating Improved The Most Throughout The Season

There are several reasons why a game-to-game tight end doesn't have the same fluctuation in the Madden leaderboard as it does in other positions. Almost any tight end has to balance responsibilities between blocking and running. Tight ends usually have fewer goals, receptions, and yards compared to WR1 on any team.

The execution of a key block or seal will not show up in your stats, but great blockers have a huge impact. It's also a reasonable assumption that EA doesn't have an analyst monitoring every player in every game. To be noticed, tight ends need to get grip, yards and touchdowns. This list features five tight ends that have realized their underrated potential in 2020.

Darren Waller 85-93

In his third year with the Raiders, Darren Waller had his second season at 1,000 yards and set new personal bests for receptions, yards and touchdowns. Waller's career started slowly in Baltimore, but is now expanding with the Las Vegas Raiders. He has great chemistry with Derek Carr and improves his game every season. Only Travis Kelce, one of the game's top receivers at this position, had more yards in 2020.

Noe Fant 74-82

Denver had a tough season last year to say the least. One of the few positives from the 2020 season was Fanta's consistency and reliability as a TE1. While he was able to score the same number of touchdowns as in 2019, Fant scored 20 consecutive receptions and had 100 additional receiving yards.

If Locke had been more consistent, Fant could have approached 1000 yards. The Broncos certainly have a good piece in Fant. His play on the field resulted in a score of eight points.

Mo Alie Cox 66-75

Alie-Cox has not played soccer since the age of 15 when he signed with the Colts in 2017. The former VCU basketball player was injured in his first year and had a limited playing time until 2020. His best performance of the 2020 season was against the Vikings, where he recorded a match over 100 meters in five matches. Alie-Cox came through the rotation consistently and had a solid year after nearly four years of waiting for significant playing time.

Logan Thomas 64-77

Thomas spent three years as a starting quarterback at Virginia Tech before being picked up in late 2014. The former quarterback jumped through the league until two years later he decided to move into a tight finishing position.

With a 6'6-inch frame, the move made sense for Thomas, who failed to find a spot on the NFL squad as a quarterback. In 2020, due to the lack of pass catchers in Washington and the distraction of the field, Thomas finally made it. At age 29, Thomas scored 6 touchdowns and 72 net receptions for nearly 700 yards.

Robert Tonyan 62-80

The explosive Packers offensive scored multiple touchdowns in 2020, with Tonyan in charge of 11 of them. No other tight end in the league has had more than ten touchdowns in the past year. The third-year player had just 10 receptions for just 100 yards in 2019. In 2020, Tonyan managed to complete 52 receptions for nearly 600 yards, which is a nice return on investment for the Packers. Tonyan started his career with a three-year deal for $553,000 in 2017 and saw his first significant time in the game at the age of 27. His impressive growth last season makes Tonyan's biggest upgrade to a tight end in Madden 21.
