Fortnite performance mode explained

Video games require more and more computer resources and take up more hard drive space than ever before. It's nice to see developers take the time to fix these issues, allowing players to save space and run games more efficiently. Fortnite is the newest game that allows players to gain precious frames per second and save some valuable hard drive space with the introduction of Fortnite Performance mode.

Performance mode

What exactly is Performance Mode? Fortnite's Performance Mode currently available alpha on PC is an opt-in option that aims to provide a significant performance improvement by lowering some of the visual quality. The performance mode is designed to reduce the load on both the CPU and the graphics card. For anyone already running the game on lower settings or running on less powerful hardware, this should allow you to use Fortnitebet better than ever before.

As Performance Mode is currently only available in Alpha, it is only available in Battle Royale and Creative modes. Users should see a prompt asking if they want to try Performance Mode. But it can also be turned on and off manually in the game settings in the "video" menu. Scroll down to "Display Mode" and you should see it there. Please note that Save the World will not be available while Performance Mode is on. To regain access, you'll need to disable Performance Mode and restart the game.

Performance mode is designed to provide improvements to all logged in users. However, there are some hardware requirements that should help ensure a smoother overall experience. If you have 6GB of RAM or are installing the game on an SSD, you can reduce the glitches you may have noticed before.

Some examples of how the game is currently running on weaker PCs before and after enabling Performance Mode show a frame rate increase of around 20-40 depending on the system. This is a significant improvement and should make the game much smoother for many players.

Save space

Another advantage of Fortnite Performance mode is the ability for users to opt out of high-resolution textures in the game. Available via Epic Games Launcher if you select Fortnite from the library and click on the three dots next to the launch option. Go to the options where you should see the option to turn off high-res textures. In total, this should save you about 14 GB of space. Pretty big space saver, I think you will agree.

Like the game or not, it's great to see Fortnite still being improved and supported even after years of absence, both in terms of content and game performance. Thanks to this support, it is one of the most successful titles in recent years. Fortnite Performance Mode is now available to sign up, so if you're looking for a smoother game, I'd recommend taking a closer look.
